Salt Lake City, January 28, 2009 – Cymphonix® announced today that Drymalla Construction Company,
Ltd., a leading general contracting company in
Texas, has installed the award-winning Cymphonix Network Composer® appliance
to manage network traffic and address content filtering needs across its
Houston headquarters, a local satellite office and various job site locations throughout
the Gulf Coast area.
As Drymalla shifted to self-hosting of emails, Web Site and FTP
sites, its internal system slowed to a crawl. It became clear that they could
no longer fulfill their commitment to provide network access for all employees
without adding additional bandwidth, as contractors downloading architectural
drawings with file sizes up to 300Mb brought Drymalla’s network to its knees.
Naturally, this resulted in a dramatic increase in complaints to the IT
department.
“After a week of putting up with the frustration and complaints, I
realized we needed to manage bandwidth more effectively,” said John Blaschke,
an estimator, project manager, and MIS director for Drymalla Construction
Company. “With the number of users we had accessing the network, investing in
more bandwidth was not an option, so we needed to find a way to control how our
bandwidth was being utilized.”
Blaschke was hunting for a solution to solve Drymalla’s bandwidth
issues, and the advice of an IT administrator friend led him to the Cymphonix Network Composer.
“I had
never seen another product like this on the market. The ability to set
priorities on the type of content and application traffic that traverses our
network combined with the capability to implement policies specific to the time
of day is totally unique,” said Blaschke. “The installation of the device was
essentially ‘plug and play’ and it was very easy to configure. The entire
process took only a couple hours. I was able to set policies to increase our
network speeds and to give our servers top priority on the network, so download
and upload speeds of important documents would never be impeded.”
Drymalla had been using Websense’s SurfControl as an online content filter, but the product became
obsolete once Cymphonix Network Composer’s content filtering
capabilities were enabled. With Cymphonix,
Drymalla blocks bandwidth-hogging recreational Web traffic, including streaming
media and instant messaging during work hours, while dynamic Time-of-Day
shaping policies allow Drymalla employees open access to these types of content
and applications after hours.
“The Network
Composer paid for itself within the first month of ownership. Since we started
using the product, we haven’t needed to increase our bandwidth. I absolutely
recommend Cymphonix to any organization, large or small, that is looking to
manage its network. Nothing I have seen comes close to the efficiency or the
functionality of this device,” said Blaschke.
